Somerset College Bursary Schemes
If you start a full-time degree course at Somerset College you will be able to apply for additional financial support from the Somerset College Bursary Scheme. Bursaries do not have to be repaid (unless you withdraw from your course during the first term).
You will only qualify for a Somerset College Bursary if you are paying tuition fees of £2050 per year for a foundation degree and £3070 per year for an honours degree.

Mandatory Bursary - up to £305
If you are assessed by the LEA as eligible for the government’s new means-tested grant of you will be eligible for a bursary of:
- £205 if you are enrolled on a foundation degree course
- £305 if you are enrolled on an honours degree programme
Mandatory bursaries are available for each year of your course but you will need to be assessed annually by the LEA. Form PNI is available from your local LEA in the March of the year you intend to start your course.
Progression Bursary up to £900
If you are already enrolled on a full-time further education course at Somerset College and gain a place on one of our full-time university-level courses you will qualify for a one-off bursary of £500.
If you are enrolled on a full-time foundation degree here or at another college within the University of Plymouth Colleges Faculty and go on to gain a place on a top-up degree programme offered at Somerset College you will qualify for a one-off bursary of £400 in your top-up year. This bursary is also available to full-time 3-year honours degree students who complete their 3rd year.
Community Bursary - up to £500
If you live within a 70 mile radius of Somerset College you will qualify for:
- a one-off payment of £500 when you enrol on foundation degree and honours degree courses
- a one-off payment of £200 when you enrol on top-up honours degree courses
PLEASE NOTE You can can only qualify for either a Community or a Progression Bursary in one year.
